Introduction


English for intermediate level students’ manual, devoted to the formation and development of speaking and research skills, is intended for students of all non-linguistic specialties and teachers. The purpose of the study guide is to help students in the process of classroom and independent work to master the skills of reading and translation. Acquired knowledge and skills should provide the future specialist with the opportunity to use special literature in English, the ability to independently read and translate English texts on psychological and pedagogical topics, select useful information for the work, and also acquire the ability to express one's thoughts in English when communicating with foreign colleagues.

This manual is designed to increase vocabulary awareness and improve speaking and research skills based on reading mass media materials, analyzing and writing essays. This book aims to build up students’ skills and confidence so that they could easily grasp the lexicon used in educational and social sphere. The texts and articles are chosen from various media rubrics such as education, science and smart technologies. English for intermediate level students’ manual contains texts, articles and assignments in form of supplementary material and extra activities aimed at using media resources for educational and research purposes.

The aid contains a various number of authentic articles, tasks and exercises to help the students deal with unknown vocabulary, facilitate and improve reading and writing skills, stimulate motivation among students. There are vocabulary building exercises throughout the manual, a concise dictionary after each text, which includes the words translations that can be used when working with texts or articles. This manual has been prepared to extend lessons and make them more interesting and useful. It can be used as a practice book or as supplementary material in classes.
